Doorbreek de stilte

‘Uiteindelijk zullen we ons niet de woorden van onze vijanden herinneren, maar de stilte van onze vrienden.’

Met deze legendarische woorden gaf Martin Luther King weer wat velen in Iran op dit moment moeten voelen. In de straten van Iran riskeren honderdduizenden mensen hun leven voor de vrijheid. In het vrije Westen blijft het akelig stil.

Op 12 juni 2009 werden er in Iran verkiezingen gehouden. Terwijl het in Iran normaal gesproken dagen duurt om de miljoenen papieren stembiljetten te tellen, was er nu binnen twee uur al een winnaar bekend: de huidige president Ahmadinejad. Dit ontketende een storm van protest.

Onder grote druk van de demonstranten stemde de Raad van Hoeders, het machtigste religieuze orgaan van het land, er in toe de meer dan zeshonderd klachten binnen vijf dagen te onderzoeken. Gisteren verklaarde de Raad van Hoeders dat er geen fraude had plaatsgevonden en dat deze verkiezing ‘de schoonste’ is in de geschiedenis van Iran.

Ondertussen wordt het voor de demonstranten in Iran steeds moeilijker hun vreedzame stem te laten horen. Het regime van Khamenei en Ahmadinejad is er in geslaagd de lijnen van communicatie af te sluiten. En diegenen die nog wel via internet en telefoon kunnen communiceren doen dat met direct gevaar voor eigen leven.

Voor miljoenen euro’s hebben westerse bedrijven zonder scrupules technologie verkocht aan een moorddadig regime. Met behulp van deze westerse technologie heeft dat regime bewerkstelligd dat het organiseren van verzet en het doorspelen van informatie aan de media in het Westen en aan de mensen in Iran zelf levensgevaarlijk is geworden. De prijs voor deze principeloze houding van westerse bedrijven tegenover een tiranniek regime wordt door vreedzame demonstranten betaald. Met hun leven.

Het is noodzakelijk dat wij stelling nemen. Tegen de onderdrukking van vreedzame demonstranten. Tegen de wurggreep van de Iraanse censuur. Tegen het laffe excuus van politieke neutraliteit. Tegen de medeplichtigheid van de stilte. Voor de verdediging van democratische waarden. Dat kan door de technologie, die het Iraanse regime gebruikt om haar burgers te onderdrukken, in te zetten om de censuur te omzeilen en in ons land anonieme proxy’s op te zetten.

Op dit moment draaien er in heel Nederland computersystemen onder hun capaciteit. Deze overtollige capaciteit kan worden ingezet om de Iraanse demonstranten in staat te stellen om anoniem deel te nemen aan een vrij verkeer van informatie: informatie doorgeven aan elkaar en aan de rest van de wereld.

In deze tijden bestaat er niet zoiets als politieke neutraliteit. Stilte is medeplichtigheid. Hoe durven wij de honderdduizenden te herdenken die hun strijd voor onze vrijheid met hun leven hebben bekocht, als wij niet eens bereid zijn in alle vrijheid anderen te helpen?

Wij roepen daarom alle bedrijven, instanties en universiteiten in Nederland op hun servers beschikbaar te stellen aan de demonstranten in Iran. Wij roepen elke universiteit, elke instantie en elk bedrijf op om op te staan voor de democratische waarden waar velen dankzij onze technologie nu met hun leven voor moeten betalen.

Break the silence

“In the end it is not the words used by our enemies that we shall remember, but the silence of our friends.” With these legendary words Martin Luther King expressed what the Iranian people must be feeling at this moment. In the streets of Iran, hundreds of thousands of people are risking their lives for freedom. The free West however still chooses to remain frightfully silent.

It becomes more and more difficult for the protesters in Iran to raise their voices peacefully. The regime of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad has been successful in blocking various channels of communication and those who nevertheless succeed in using the internet and phone lines, are risking their very lives.

For millions of Euros western companies have sold technologies to a murderous regime without any scruple. This regime has, with the aid of these Western technologies, accomplished to make organizing protests and relaying information to Western media and people in Iran a life threatening endeavour. The price for this unethical act by Western companies of supporting a tyrannous regime is being paid for by the peaceful protesters in Iran.

It is urgent to make a stand against the suppression of peaceful protesters, against the stranglehold of this regime’s censorship, against the cowardly position of political neutrality and against the complicity of silence. It is pressing to defend democratic values. The same kind of technologies used by the regime in Iran to suppress Iranian people, can be utilised to circumvent censorship and to set up anonymous proxy servers for people in Iran.

At this moment many computers in the Netherlands only use a fraction of their internet bandwidth. This excess bandwidth can be rerouted to Iranian protesters in order to enable the free and anonymous flow of information. This way they will be able to share information with each other and with Western media.

These times demand more than ‘political neutrality’ as silence can only be seen as complicity. We can not commemorate hundreds of thousands of people who fought for our freedom in the past and abandon those who are fighting for the same, right at this moment.

We therefore appeal to every company, organization and university in The Netherlands to make part of their servers and network bandwidth available to the Iranian protesters. We ask every company, organization and university in the Netherlands to stand for democratic values, the price of which is being paid by the lives of people in Iran, partially due to our own Western technologies.

فراخون شکستن سکوت – بیانیه نخبگان هلند

این نامه روز شنبه ۲۷ ژوئن در یکی از پرتیراژترین روزنامه‌های هلند (فولکس کرانت Volkskrant) با امضای مشهورترین نماینده گان از طیف‌های سیاسی، مدنی، علمی و هنری به چاپ رسید.

«عاقبت الامر آنچه در خاطر ما باقی خواهد ماند، نه اظهارات دشمنانمان، که خاموشی دوستانمان خواهد بود». آنچه امروزه در عمق جامعه ایران حس می‌شود، در باطن این واژه‌های مارتین لوترکینگ نهفته است. در حالیکه صدها هزار تن در خیابانهای ایران جان خود را در راه کسب آزادی به خطر می‌اندازند، دنیای غرب در سکوتی ناگوار فرو رفته است.

معترضین مسالمت‌جو در ایران هر روز برای رساندن صدای اعتراض خود به دنیای بیرون با مشکلات بیشتری مواجه هستند. چرا که حکومت خامنه‌ای و احمدی‌نژاد توانسته است امکانات ارتباطی کشور را مسدود سازد و آنانی که همچنان از طریق اینترنت و تلفن قادر به برقراری ارتباط هستند، مستقیمأ جان خود را به مخاطره می‌اندازند.

رژیم جنایتکار ایران هر گونه مقاومت و تبادل هر گونه اطلاعات به دنیای خارج و حتی در داخل ایران را به اقداماتی پرمخاطره بدل کرده است. بهای این رفتار غیر اصولی شرکتهای غربی را امروز معترضان آرام در ایران با جان خود می‌پردازند.

امروز موضع گیری در قبال مسائلی از قبیل سرکوب معترضین مسالمت جو، سانسور خفقان آور حاکم در ایران، سکوت بزدلانه با پز بی طرفی سیاسی و شراکت جرم از طریق سکوت، در عین تلاش برای دفاع از ارزشهای دموکراتیک بسیار ضروری می‌نماید. با استفاده از همان فن آوری که رژیم ایران جهت سرکوب شهروندان خویش بکار می‌برد، می‌توان با یاری “پروکسی سرور”‌های غیرقابل شناسائی به مهار سانسور اعمال شده، پرداخت.

در حال حاضر بسیاری از کامپیوترها در هلند زیر ظرفیت خود کار می‌کنند. می‌توان این ظرفیت مازاد را در جهت تبادل آزاد اطلاعات میان معترضین در ایران و نیز با دنیای بیرون به خدمت گرفت.

در دنیای امروز امکان بی طرفی سیاسی وجود ندارد. سکوت برابر است با شراکت در جرم. چگونه میتوانیم از صدها هزار انسانی که با نثار جان خویش آزادی را برای ما به ارمغان آورده اند، یاد کنیم و در عین حال کمک خویش را از جستجوگران آزادی دریغ نمائیم؟

بنا بر این از تمامی شرکتها، مؤسسات و دانشگاههای هلند مصرانه تقاضا داریم “سرورهای” خود را در اختیار معترضین در ایران قرار دهند. ما از کلیه دانشگاهها، مؤسسات و شرکتهای هلندی می‌خواهیم برای استقرار ارزشهای دموکراتیک به پا خیزند. ارزشهائی که امروز بسیارانی در ایران برای دستیابی به آن جان خویش را ارزانی می‌دارند.
